Your Wellness Is Our Specialty
At Nevada Orthopedics, our team of specialized orthopedic surgeons and physicians is committed to providing exceptional care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
Joint Replacement and Osteoarthritis
Dr Shonnard is a regional expert in joint replacement surgery which he has been doing for just over thirty years and performs hundreds a year. He uses a Minimally Invasive approach for both the hip and knee replacement procedure. This approach combined with advanced pain management techniques has produced an accelerated rate in patient recovery. This results in a shorter hospital length of stay, minimal blood loss, and better patient outcomes. These are predominantly outpatient procedures.
Hips
The minimally invasive posterior approach requires a smaller incision and exposes less soft tissue. This approach achieves the lowest rate of complications while maintaining the fastest recovery. In this approach muscle fibers are separated, so the nerve path is not disturbed, and the muscle is not injured. This also makes visualization of the femur much easier, which involves less risk of femoral fracture or poor implant positioning. This procedure is done out patient and immediately allows for ambulation and weightbearing.
Knees
Dr Shonnard has been performing minimally invasive knee replacement for twenty years as well. The minimally invasive approach differs from traditional in that the incision is smaller and there is less cutting of the tendons and ligaments. This procedure is also done as an outpatient status procedure. Our patients are up and walking the same day allowing them to bear weight immediately.
Shoulders
Although shoulder replacement is less common than knee or hip replacement, it is just as successful in relieving joint pain. Here at Nevada orthopedics, we use a specialized prothesis that helps all ages get back to their active lifestyle. Each prosthesis is tailored to each individual patient.
